The Goal: Create a website that honors a fan base that has eagerly continued to follow the game and grow even though it was sunsetted 10 years prior.
Ideology: Involve the fans, update the game whilst keeping its original, beloved appeal, and make sure the design is generic enough to incorporate new seasons without a lot of redesign.
Challenge: Involve the fans in the design process in a meaningful way.
My Role: Information Architect, Lead UI/UX, Art Director. I led this team: Design, Development, Project Management, and Client Interface.
The most important and most pleasurable part of the process of design for this website was having a series of meetings with the fans group to go over the site they had been upkeeping for a decade. These dedicated gamers were influential in this community and it became paramount to make sure they felt good about what we were doing. I had a series of design meetings to go over their site and their decisions but also to get their take on different design ideas, structure, and IA. I had a lot of warm feelings working this way. It was really fun.
Final Designs: I created 2 complete designs. Each had different Features, Information Architecture, and Visual Design. I pared down the choices the KI Team would have to make by only including the things that were most important to the player base as well as some essential updates to bring it into modernity. In a series of brainstorming sessions with the KI Team where they picked the most important elements from each design, I was able to combine my ideas into one SUPER idea. Everyone left the table satisfied: old school fans, KI Team, and Dev/Design.
